Restoration radiators are 100% correct reproduction aluminum plate type radiators. These radiators appear exactly like the original model, including the GM part number, date code, and label. Plate type radiators are not simply for show, as they will out perform any tube type aluminum racing radiator. With ratings as high as 4600btu/m, these radiators are the highest performance radiators on the market. A four row copper replacement radiator provides about 3300btu/m which usually results in a hot motor. If your car originally came with an aluminum radiator, changing to copper radiator is a downgrade in performance".
Date of production or vin number are required to order this date coded radiator.
DeWitts Reproductions is licensed by General Motors to reproduce the original “plate type” Corvette aluminum radiators used from 1960 through 1972. Unlike other tube designs, the stacked plate forms one single tube the entire depth of the core. As a result, 100% of the tube is in contact with the fin area, providing the maximum possible heat transfer.
Each radiator is brazed together in a process called “Controlled Atmosphere Brazing”, or CAB for short. This process allows us to manufacturer a radiator much stronger and without introducing the corrosive salt as was done originally. We have also incorporated the new “serpentine” fin into each core.
This fin technology involves special louvers cut into the fin to create an airflow pattern through the core that maximizes the cooling efficiency. We are so confident in the finished product, we guarantee them to run at least 20 degrees cooler than any brass/copper replacement and back them with a five-year warranty!
Unfortunately, these radiators are not available for every Corvette model. They are only intended for the cars that originally came with aluminum radiators. The following is a list of the applications that are available:
